Denatonium benzoate is the bitterest compound known in the world.Denatonium benzoate (bitter essence) is currently used as aversiveagent, denaturant, food inhibitor and flavoring agent. Picrosin is listed as an inactive ingredient in the United States Pharmacopeia USP32NF27. However, it has not been reported as a bitter receptor antagonist or reverse agonist in drug preparation, nor has it been reported as a drug preparation for the treatment and/or prevention of obesity, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and neuropathic pain.
